What is Autodesk's 123D Design?
Objective: Learn the capabilities of Autodesk's 123D Design and why I recommend this software over other software for 3D Printing.
What is Autodesk 123D Design?
A free, simple software to create 3D models that can be 3D printed.
I recommend this program because the people I teach who are just starting to learn to 3D model, seem to understand and enjoy this program better than anything else I teach. I personally would never use this program because it lacks the features of other programs and therefore I feel limited. But, I do think it is the best software for someone starting completely new.

What Advantages Does 123D Design Have?
- Autodesk makes it, which is my favorite software company.
- One of the easiest programs to learn to 3D model.
- Gives you the skills to make an easy transition into other software programs.
- Dimensions
- The program does not allow for non-manifold geometry.
- Available on Mac, Windows, Web, Mobile Device.
What Disadvantages Does 123D Design Have?
- Dumped down version of Autodesk Inventor. In other words it lacks many features. If you want more features you can download the student version of any Autodesk program for free. Or you can buy Solidworks, CATIA, NX, etc.
- If you are impatient, it can be frustrating to select what you want.
- No history so hard to undo mistakes
